“I was strictly fee-based. People were very appreciative of the fact that I wasn't trying to sell products. I was basically giving advice.”
The Founding of Conrad Siegel Actuaries
Conrad Siegel began his career as an actuary in Toronto. In 1959, a recruiter for the consulting wing of an insurance agency brought him to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Just four years later, Connie opened his own business: Conrad Siegel Actuaries.
“Don’t even entertain the thought of taking clients with you,” Connie’s boss told him. “Always maintain good relationships.”
Despite having only $3,500 to invest and a family to support, Connie took the advice and applied it to his new business. As word of its good customer service and impartial advice grew, Connie’s former boss hired Conrad Siegel Actuaries as a consultant. The City of Harrisburg and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania also became clients.
Connie’s vision helped the business grow into one of Pennsylvania’s largest employee benefits firms. Today, Conrad Siegel Actuaries remains a consultant-owned firm. Our 1,200+ clients range from companies with a single employee to Fortune 500 corporations with international branches.
